Wallington Little League: Grassroots Kids Football

"FOOTBALL HAS TO BE FUN FOR KIDS OR IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE" Our aim is to provide affordable, organized grassroots football at the entry level in a safe, controlled competitive environment where local boys and girls from Wallington, of all abilities and backgrounds, can partake. We intend to assist players in reaching their potential while ensuring the enjoyment factor remains intact. Our core values of Respect, Enjoyment & Togetherness are essential, and we hope everyone—from committee members to parents—can help us reinforce these principles in our local football and little league activities.

Fun, fun, and more fun is what kids need at this age, along with a large helping of positive encouragement in grassroots football. Encouraging youngsters in our local football programs, like Wallington Little League, to try different positions on the pitch and learn how to integrate into a team environment should be the focus of their early introduction to football, ensuring a positive experience.

Parents must avoid reliving their youth through their children, allowing them the freedom to express themselves on the pitch. Coaches and managers at our little league should be discouraged from marching up and down the touchline shouting overly complicated instructions, while also being encouraged not to challenge the decisions of the match referee.

Children in this age group are looking for role models and look to the adults around them to lead by example. Therefore, all adults involved at Wallington Little League need to be ambassadors of ‘Best Practice’, where sportsmanship is positively encouraged.

Wallington Little League believes in healthy competition, and we will be implementing a league standing in the junior and inters division. That said, if the competitiveness becomes overbearing, we will revert to a friendly game format. The Bantams division will remain focused purely on developmental aspects of kids football.
